Day 30: My Favorite Song This Time Last Year

Last year at this time I was reveling in the victory of my favorite football club - them winning the Premier League was the highlight of May 2010 - and all I listened to for weeks were Chelsea FC songs. While they mean a lot to me, they don't qualify as my favorite songs. Going back into my blog by a year, I realized that it was also my Black Sabbath (and all related) phase. I listened to their entire discography and if I remember correctly, Bible Black was an obsession for me.


Ronnie James Dio is one of my metal idols. His voice! Ah! I would've given anything to watch him perform live, but when he was performing I was too young, and then I never had the opportunity! But his music shall live on!

Something that he knows he's never read
And the first page says beware you've found the answer
The next one says I wish that you were dead!
Don't go on, put it back, you're reading from the Bible black!

What's this word I see, who are you and who are me
Maybe I just stumbled in the dark
I must have been out cold, but the way the story's told
They found me lying naked in the rain, yeah
Let me go I've seen a vision, but the line has left me blind
Take me back, I must have the Bible black!

Well here I go again, from the start to the end
I wish I could remember what I've done
Now here's another spell, it could take me straight to hell
And I feel I'm getting closer to my home
Let me go I've found addiction and it makes me feel alive
Take me back, I must have the Bible black!


He locks himself away and tastes the silence
Hungry for another bite of wrong
And just the words "oh Lord please take me with you"
Took him to a place we don't belong

Let him go! He can't come back, he's reading from the Bible black!

So if your fire's dying, then what's the use of trying?
I may know another place that you can go
It's hiding in the pages, but you may not come back
You're reading from the Bible black!

This is not exactly a review - because I don't know the language well enough to write a German review, but I will, in due time. Reviewing the Harry Potter books would take its toll on me because of the details in it - the same goes for the Lord of the Rings. Maybe if I'd  reviewed them as I read them it would've made it easier but... Anyway. Harry Potter in Deutsch . I'm re-learning the language - signed up for the A1 level once again because I haven't retained what I learned three years ago. I can understand random words and simple sentences and make wild guesses at what the more complex sentences convey, but I would like to know the grammar, the structure and the foundation of the language so that I may indulge in German literature. The Magician's Death

Another P. C. Doherty historical mystery, this time set in medieval England, in the early 14th century and towards the end of the reign of Edward I . The focus is on his continual efforts to trump Philip IV of France , and the works of Roger Bacon . Sir Hugh Corbett , Keeper of the Secret Seal and the eyes and ears of King Edward I, serves as the intelligent academic and criminologist. It begins, as every good mystery should, with a death, here following a theft of a copy of Bacon's Secretus Secretorum (a lovely play on Secretum Secretorum ) from the French. The basis of the plot? Decode Bacon's, a priest and scientist, work by finding the key to his book because it's all written in code, and ultimately shift the balances of power in the favor of the one that makes the discovery first! Both Kings send envoys, academics led by a shrewd politician, to try and figure this out through mutual cooperation, but foul play is suspected in achieving these ends as people begin to die

There & Back Again

"Going home?" asks Ennis, a friendly grin on his face as I shuffle into the back seat of his Uber.  "Yes!"  "Belltown?" Ennis swerves sharply to the right from the middle lane with the intention of getting on the I-520 ramp from Bellevue to Seattle. I pause before I answer. "It was home," I s ay. "But I'm moving back to Chicago in two hours." To say that I'm delighted would be completely accurate. But it does come at some emotional cost, not to mention the exhaustion and mental tussle of a cross-country move. West Seattle 22 months in the Pacific Northwestern city of Seattle has been educational and interesting, and expensive too if I factor in the 13 trips I made to Chicago in the time.
